Expanding Earth

Ok, how crazy an idea is this really? I'm curious for those of you who may have gone further in your scientific training than I have if this is entirely preposterous or if it has any weight to it at all. All I'm asking is that you suspend disbelief and give it some consideration. I have no idea if this is right, but it's certainly interesting.

This hypothesis is shear nonsense. The plains beneath where I sit here in Colorado were clearly once covered by a vast sea. - Go visit the sand hills of Nebraska. Why are there shells on top of Longs Peak (14,000')? No subduction? Tell that to Californians. Where did the Sierra come from? And how about the Himalayas? His simulation shows no movement of the Indian subcontinent, yet we know that the Himalayas are still rising. The southern alps of New Zealand are also still rising. This is a joke. a.annie

I was thinking maybe all the molten rock and metal that makes up the core of the planet was actually -expanding- as it cools, which would of course make the planet swell up. And the cracks in the mantle where it's oozing through are also where we see new ocean floors appearing.

Kind of like a delicious loaf of crusty sourdough bread. Yes, I'm hungry.

Also, a gold star to Anonymous for "shear nonsense." Yay for geology puns!
